Balayage and Lived-In Color Education, Oh my!

Our team was lucky enough to benefit from several in salon classes in the last couple of months. We had Ricky Hodge, out of Austin, Texas come in and teach his legendary “no clippers ever” scissor over comb method. We all loved his down to earth style and unique approach to short hair.

We also had 2 color classes. Heather taught us one of her favorite lived-in color placements, which achieves beautiful, soft, dimensional results the requires minimal maintenance, We also had Shireen, from Davines come in and teach a balayage class.

“Balayage” is the French word for sweep, and it literally means sweeping color on the hair as if if you are painting the painting the hair. People often think of balayage as a look, but it is actually a tecnique, and the look that they think of is actually called “lived-in color” which is color that gets gradually lighter towards the ends of the hair and has more depth at the roots allowing for an easy grow out. It often has a shadow root and a toner. True balayage is low contrast because it is air processed, where lived in color is typically done in foils. Both are beautiful when done by a skilled professional.
